According to epidemiologists, in the coming days the number of confirmed cases will continue to grow, based on the behavior of Omicron of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which, unlike “Delta”, has an incubation period shorter, so the spread is faster.

In a meeting with experts, Dr. Amarilis Pupo Zaldívar, director of the Provincial Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology, indicated strengthening border surveillance actions, both at the Frank País international airport, as well as in ports and marinas, where the established protocols must be met.

With regard to travelers, both those arriving from abroad and from other regions of the country who go  to the community, they must be monitored by the health authorities, as  there are several focal points in various municipalities, from people arriving from other territories .

But, in the case of people who enter for a family visit or return from foreign trips, such as from Russia, Nicaragua, Guyana, Panama and other nations, they must stay in isolation in their homes until  the PCR -TR result, while in the case of travelers who are workers, they are prohibited from joining their workplace until they have negative the study carried out.

Dr. Pupo pointed out that in the Emergency Rooms there should be a rapid test and if the patient is positive, the established protocol will be followed. In the same way, the specialist pointed out the role to be played by the State Sanitary Inspection team in terms of compliance with the measures established in work centers, day care centers and schools.

According to studies, specialists point out as the main symptoms of the Omicron variant of COVID-19: runny nose, headache, fatigue (mild or severe), sneezing and sore throat, but they point out that it is the most contagious variant to date; However, the symptomatology, they assure, is milder, similar to a flu or a cold, although the patient should not stay at home for this reason, the indication is to go to the doctor before any signs or respiratory discomfort.
