Health workers, students of Medical Sciences and other risk groups, including those from the Tourism sector, the Ministry of the Interior and Transportation in the province of Holguín began to receive single anti-COVID booster doses of Abdala, with the aim of maintaining immunity against the lethal disease.

So far, more than 1,300 people from the municipalities of Gibara, Holguín and Urbano Noris received this intramuscular injection, which will gradually be applied to the rest of the population, according to Dr. Clara Fernández, head of the Immunization program in the province.

She explained that this booster dose will be administered to people who have completed the primary vaccination scheme against COVID-19 six months after the last dose, with the exception of health workers, which may receive it at the end of the four-month period.

The vaccination process will take place at the same clinical sites and vaccination points where the campaign began in the province last May and a similar pre and post-vaccination check-up protocol is followed, with the indicated observation time included.

She specified that on this occasion the booster dose will be applied with Abdala, although any other of the immunogens being used can be applied, regardless of the one used in the primary scheme of the campaign.

“No person with exclusion criteria will not receive this injection, including people under 18 years of age, those with hypersensitivity to any of the components of the vaccines, those suffering from a certain acute disease at the time of vaccination; patients with decompensated chronic diseases or those undergoing cancer treatment ”, she specified.

Neither will those who were confirmed with COVID-19 through the PCR test and were applied a dose of Soberana Plus, while people who received the complete scheme of any of the vaccines and became ill later, they will have to wait six months after their recovery to go to the vaccination points.

Similarly, pregnant and lactating women will be protected with the reinforcement dose, except for allergy sufferers, who will be vaccinated with the formulation of Abdala and Soberana Plus without Thiomersal.

In the case of children, booster doses will not be applied until the studies are completed, which will establish the time in which this new anti-Covid-19 dose can be applied.
