The province of Holguín has included new population groups to the anti-COVID-19 vaccination programs, as part of the extension of immunization among the priorities of the public health sector in Cuba.

Health workers and children allergic to thimerosal, as well as more than eight thousand convalescents with more than two months of discharge after being positive for SarsCov-2, are among the population groups to be vaccinated.

Children of school age and with physical-motor disabilities receiving special educational programs such as outpatient teachers, which are included within the sectors most vulnerable to developing severe forms of the new coronavirus, refers a medical report.

Dr. Yanetsy Pérez, a member of the group of experts in charge of vaccination, told the Cuban News Agency that with the support of mass organizations, the education sector, companies and state agencies, the quality of the process and the operation of the more than 700 certified vaccination centers in the eastern territory are guaranteed.

She also pointed out the importance of continuing to apply the established hygienic-sanitary measures, which together with immunization should contribute to the reduction of incidence rates and the behavior of autochthonous cases.

In Holguín, more than 480 thousand people have received the complete scheme of the Cuban vaccine Abdala, the first in Latin America to receive authorization for emergency use from the Center for the Control of Medicines, Medical Equipment and Devices (CECMED), the Cuban regulatory authority.

The prioritized groups also include nursing mothers, pregnant women, transplant patients, children concluding the general education, health personnel, nursing homes, psychiatric hospitals and care centers for people with homeless behavior.

In the midst of the global economic crisis and the tightening of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States since 1962, more than 26 million doses of the vaccines created by scientists from the Caribbean island have been administered in Cuba and around seven million of people have the complete scheme, according to the website of the Ministry of Public Health.
