On occasion of World Nursing Day celebrated every May 12, more than seven thousand professionals from this branch in the province of Holguín show their leading role in the confrontation with COVID-19 and the maintenance of basic health services in the middle of this pandemic.
In all the health areas in the eastern territory, these specialists contribute to compliance with the protocols established for personal protection and clinical monitoring of patients.
In the midst of the health intervention with the Cuban vaccine candidate Abdala, more than 400 professionals from this branch, previously trained, are part of the process in the 49 clinical sites and 73 vaccination points located in the 14 municipalities of the province.
Anne González, a nurse at the vaccination point located at the Lucía Íñiguez Clinical Surgical Hospital, told the Cuban News Agency that more than a simple injection, this is the result of the efforts made by Cuban science in its programs to reduce the contagion rates of COVID-19, which has the necessary material resources for the success of the process.
As part of the commemoration of the anniversary, social networks will also be used to show Holguín's achievements in scientific research and medical assistance, in addition to the delivery of recognitions in labor groups, said Yamilé Ramírez, head of the section of Nursing of the Provincial Directorate of Public Health.
The date is celebrated every year on May 12 and was established by the World Health Organization in honor of the birth of Florence Nightingale in 1820, considered a pioneer of this specialty in the modern era and founder of the first school for nurses in the world.
