The Provincial Directorate of Public Health in Holguín today highlighted the need to strengthen the control measures of COVID-19 after the report here of 63 positive cases on Monday, one the highest figure in a day in the eastern territory since the start of the pandemic in Cuba in March 2020.
In meeting to analyze the epidemiological situation of the province, Dr. Amarilis Pupo, head of the Center for Hygiene, Epidemiogy and Microbiology of Holguín, said that in recent weeks the cases with a source of infection within the home have increased, hence the need to increase prevention measures to counteract the expansion of the outbreak of the pandemic.
In this sense, strict compliance with the health protocols established for the prevention of the dangerous virus is required, such as frequent washing of the hands and the use of foot steps, she added.
She indicated that in previous stages the tendency was to infect a single family member, while in this new outbreak all family members have been infected with Covid-19, for which self-responsibility and increased risk perception are essential within preventive programs, both in the communities and in workplaces.
Pupo stressed the importance of continuing to improve the identification of the contacts of confirmed cases and the reduction of waiting times for admission to institutions authorized for clinical-epidemiological surveillance.
Holguín has among its priorities the reduction of the number of patients without a specified source of infection, which exceeds the figure of 20 in the last fifteen days, and intensifying compliance with movement restriction measures and social isolation, she pointed out.
The eastern territory has an incidence rate of 24 patients per 100,000 inhabitants, with a predominance of asymptomatic patients, according to data provided at the end of this information.
