The Havana-based Immunoessay Research Center informed that Cuba has a new Ultra Micro Analytical System, which allows detecting several diseases early, among them Covid-19, local press reported on Thursday.

This technology can support the follow-up of the evolutionary cases as of the fifth day after the first PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) test is made in patients infected with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

The Umelisa SARS-CoV-2 IgG system, which will be used to diagnose people with suspected contagion, completed its external assessment with very good results at the Pedro Kouri Tropical Medicine Institute in Havana, the source stated.

The new system is capable of detecting IgG-type antibodies in serum or plasma samples, and it uses synthetic peptides from immunodominant regions of the virus (they are segments of the virus proteins on which the immune response of the Covid-19 person develops).

These fragments were synthesized by a group of researchers from the Immunoassay Research Center and the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, both in Havana, with the collaboration by the Ministry of Public Health.
