AVR Soberana 02This city in eastern Cuba is preparing today for the third phase of clinical trials of the Abdala Covid-19 vaccine candidate, which it will share with Guantanamo, after conducting two previous ones with good results.

Awaiting the approval to start that stage by the Center of State Medical Equipment and State Control of Cuba, authorities are preparing vaccination facilities and the experts in charge of this phase with some 30,000 volunteers.

The Saturnino Lora Provincial Teaching Hospital will remain the epicenter of these tests, which started early in December, 2020, with 132 and 660 individuals, respectively, strictly supervised by experts from the Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Center (CIGB), which created the vaccine.

CIGB authorities acknowledged the support received to carry out this new cycle from authorities of both eastern provinces, hit by a severe new outbreak of the SARS-CoV2 coronavirus in recent weeks.

This hospital in Santiago de Cuba has had successful precedents in the implementation of clinical trials, that is why it has been chosen for this epidemiological trials.

Lazaro Exposito and Beatriz Johnson, president and vice president of the Provincial Defense Council, respectively, visited polyclinics in which the third phase will take place, seen as decisive in the process of completing the development of the Abdala vaccine candidate. /PL
