In the world of cinema, few manage to combine disciplines as diverse as history, anthropology and social sciences. Giovanni Princigalli, an Italian filmmaker trained at the University of Bari and with a master's degree in Cinema in Montreal, is one of those talents.

Starting in 2025, the Gibara International Film Festival will be called the Gibara International Low-Budget Film Festival, in accordance with the founding principles set forth by its founder, Humberto Solás, in his Low-Budget Film Manifesto.

The 18th Gibara International Film Festival, being held in this eastern Cuban city, will close on Saturday with the awarding ceremony of the 2024 Lucia de Honor Award in several categories.
