Historians and intellectuals of several countries open today in Holguín the 14th Ibero-American Congress of Thought with the aim to reflect on the Caribbean heritage and culture in these times.
More than 200 people from different nations, including Mexico, El Salvador, Italy, the United States and Costa Rica, will participate in the event until October 27.
Social thought and identity, relations between the United States and Cuba, public policies against gender inequality and violence in Latin America, cultural heritage and the contribution of tourism to the sustainable local development of Cuban communities will be some of the topics for debate.
Participants will also debate on management in cooperative organizations, artistic and socio-educational processes, transculturation, musical identity, languages, cultural integration and traditions, among others.
The 14th Congress will take place at the Hotel Pernik, in Holguín, a city located about 734 kilometers east of the capital.
One of the most anticipated conferences of the event is that of the Ambassador of Trinidad and Tobago in Cuba, Lancelot Cowie, who will reflect on culture as a driving force in diplomatic relations in the Caribbean and Latin America.
The event integrates the program of the 25th Ibero-American Culture Festival, inaugurated the day before with delegates from more than 15 countries.
Regarding the festival, the Iberian Cultural Center will host an expo-sale of wines by the Bayado Vinicultores Club, and will also serve as a stage for a tribute to the community of natives and descendants of Canarian origin in Holguín. / PL
