The 23rd edition of Holguín Concert Day takes place from December 10 to 15 in this eastern Cuban city with the participation of music bands from other Cuban territories.
The Concert Day began on Monday with the presentation of Bayado guitars quartet at Casa de Iberoamérica and the Chamber Orchestra of Holguín, under the baton of maestro Oreste Saavedra, at the Eddy Suñol Theater.
Dedicated to the 55th anniversary of the Orfeón Holguín, the event includes the presentation of Dúo Savarez, of Holguín; the Magic Sax Quartet, from Santiago de Cuba; the group Desandán, of Camagüey; Metals in Concert and the Exulten Ancient Music Ensemble, both from Granma, among others.
The Havana’s Yarineidis Llinse, a specialist in artistic development of the Cuban Institute of Music and director of Symphony Orchestra and Concert Band, will take the baton of the Holguín Symphony for the closing of the event, scheduled for Saturday 15, at nine o'clock at night at the Eddy Suñol Theater.
"It is a privilege for me to be invited to close this Day with the Symphony of Holguín, a city with a vast artistic tradition and with a band that, despite its youth and the dilemmas faced each day, sets very difficult goals when choosing a repertoire of high technical-artistic level that they achieve with development ", said Llinse.
She pointed out that they intend to perform the Symphony No. 3 "Scottish", by Mendelssohn; a selection of orchestral fragments of the opera "Dido and Eneas", by Henry Purcell and the overture "La Escala de Seda", by Rossini.
The Concert Day is traditionally held on June each year. But, according to Morales, due to budget problems the event was postponed and highlighted the importance to protect and promote concert music, as well as to encourage the exchange among the artistic units that perform it.
