The celebration of the National Culture Day began in Holguín on October 10th with a tribute to Cuban roots at the Alex Urquiola Provincial Library.
The celebration, which will run until the 20th, featured performances by the Palabras al Viento Storytelling Company, the performing groups La Campana and El Guiñol, as well as soloist Liz Ponce and troubadour Yanco León.
This event is dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the Mayarí Son Festival, the 100th anniversary of the Cine Martí, the life and work of historians Ángela Peña Obregón and Hirám Pérez Concepción, and the 21st anniversary of the José Martí Brigade of Art Instructors (BJM).
Cultural institutions such as the provincial centers for film, visual arts, heritage, and cultural advancement have prepared a broad program of activities, including screenings of Cuban films and lectures on national identity.
The celebration was attended by Joel Queipo Ruiz, first secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) in Holguín; Manuel Francisco Hernández Aguilera, provincial governor; Yaquelin Tapia, Director of Culture in the province; and other executives.
