The 3rd Paper Artists Meeting will take place from October 24 to 30 in Holguín, organized by the publishing house Cuadernos Papiro, with the aim to promote the creation of paper as an artwork in itself.

This event highlights the artisanal value of paper and promotes its use as an artistic medium, emphasizing the importance of handmade processes in its production.

This initiative responds to the need of Cuban artists and designers to have a sustainable medium for their creations, using recycled materials and natural fibers. It also allows creators to deeply engage in the production process, enriching the artistic experience and encouraging environmentally responsible practices.

The event was launched more than three years ago at the initiative of Fernando Bacallao, who also served as the founder of the workshop and as a producer of the movement that emerged later, said Manuel Arias, director and editor of Papiro.

Each edition promotes teaching the technique of handmade paper and seeks to bring new generations closer to this tradition, especially involving students from the Regional School of Plastic Arts "El Alba," where activities such as lectures and workshops take place.

This edition is aimed at developing volumetric pieces made with handmade paper pulp, continuing the thematic line of previous events and concluding with the presentation of an art book project.

Artists, students, and enthusiasts are invited to participate in a space that fosters collaboration and learning, valuing the technique for its charm and the appeal of returning to the craft repeatedly.

The event will pay tribute to Mexican muralist, painter, and sculptor Electa Arenal on the 90th anniversary of her birth highlighting her muralistic legacy in Holguín.

The event is being held at the Provincial Center for Visual Arts, celebrating the artist's muralist achievements in the city of Holguín.

The event is supported by the Cuban Fund for Cultural Assets, the Provincial Center of Plastic Arts of Holguín, and is part of the Ibero-American Culture Festival held in the city during the last week of October
