Holguín: Winner of the Celestino Prize announced

The winner of the 25th Celestino Short Story Prize was announced on Friday at the “Abrirse las constelaciones” club of Ediciones La Luz, the publishing house belonging to the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS) in Holguín.

After evaluating the 37 books in competition, the jury, made up of Mario Bellatin, Eduardo Manet, Lourdes Gonzalez, Emerio Medina and Ruben Rodriguez, awarded the prize to “Morir un poco”, by Andy Jorge Blanco, from Matanzas province.

According to Rubén Rodríguez, on behalf of the jury: "the book is credible in its entire composition, it has great quality in its anecdotes, the good design of characters and atmospheres, as well as the formal correctness in the use of syntax, grammar and writing".

About the award-winning author, the publishing house reports that he is a graduate of the Centro Nacional de Formación Literaria Onelio Jorge Cardoso and holds a Master’s degree in Communication and Culture from the University of Seville.

The XXV Celestino Short Story Prize also granted mentions to the books “Cómo deconstruir un cuerpo”, by Oscar Rodríguez Montes and “Juego de roles”, by Betsabeth Zaldívar Aguilera.

The event, organized by Ediciones La Luz and the literature section of the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS) in Holguín, was dedicated to the 25 years of the first winning story of the contest: "Flora and the Angel", by the writer and journalist Rubén Rodríguez, 40 years after the death of Julio Cortázar and the 110th anniversary of Onelio Jorge Cardoso.
