Holguín: Romerías de Mayo Festival begins today

The Romerías de Mayo festival, which is scheduled to take place from today until Wednesday next week in the city of Holguín, includes a wide program of activities to celebrate its 30th anniversary.
Dedicated to the 65th anniversaries of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (Icaic) and the House of the Americas, the cultural event will be officially inaugurated after the traditional parade from the Mayor General Calixto García stadium to the La Periquera Provincial Museum.
Preceded by the car tour and the tribute to Latin American heroes and liberators, the Pre Romerías concert will be led by Tony Ávila and his group, in the Bosque de los Héroes, in the Plaza de la Revolución Mayor General Calixto García of this city.
Memoria Nuestra, the congress of thought and award for young researchers, will take place at La Periquera Provincial Museum will open with the panel "Sharing Memories. 65 years of the ICAIC and the Casa de las Américas", by Manuel Herrera Reyes, National Film Award 2022 and Jorge Fornet Gil, director of the Literary Research Center of Casa de las Américas.
The Provincial Center of Plastic Arts will host Babel, and announces a debate on contemporary Cuban photography with guests such as Humberto Mayol and Julio Lamarrendi, in addition to the personal exhibition “Beyond the Epic”, by Ernesto Fernández, National Prize for Plastic Arts 2011.
The Bloguerías de Mayo, a space for debate on the Internet and journalism, will be dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Cuban News Agency and the 25th anniversary of the Round Table TV program. Also, it will host panels and exchanges between media and communication professionals who will address topics such as social networks and artificial intelligence in the current context.
The cultural spaces Cámara Azul, Palabras compartidas, Destrabando la trova, Rapnarök, Rockmerías and Electroromerías are also among the activities planned.
Organized by the AHS, the Romerías de Mayo, held annually in the city of Holguín for three decades, brings together representatives of all art manifestations in the country to exchange for seven days at the World Festival of Artistic Youth. (Source: ACN)
