US band will pay tribute to Holguín pianist Frank Fernández

Metro Big Band, a North American group directed by Camp Kirkland, will honor Holguín maestro Frank Fernández on March 3rd with a concert at the José White Concert Hall in the Cuban province of Matanzas.
According to information offered by the communication and marketing specialist of the Hall, Javier Francisco, the concert will start at 5:00 p.m. local time and will serve as a tribute by the North American band to its 80 anniversary and 65 years of artistic life of Fernández, prominent Cuban pianist and composer.
Metro Big is a jazz band with a work that transcends the United States of America, as it has been widely accepted over the years with performances in Europe and Latin America.
The links between Frank Fernández and the José White Concert Hall have been going on for decades but were strengthened on January 28, 2016 because after being closed to the public for almost 16 years, the Hall opened its doors with the pianist in charge of the reopening together with the Symphony Orchestra of Matanzas, guided by Enrique Pérez Mesa, with the interpretation of the emblematic piece La Bella Cubana.
Frank Fernández becomes an illustrious figure of music in Cuba, especially piano music, and his work transcends the national border by having a significant appreciation from international critics by writing works for different formats from ballet, choirs, symphonies, radio and television, among many others.
