New studies on hereditary ataxias underway in Holguín

Valuable research projects aimed at unraveling the mysteries of hereditary ataxias outline the scientific program being carried out this year by researchers in this province who continue to search for effective therapies to combat this debilitating disease.
Dr. Jacqueline Medrano, director of the Center for Research and Rehabilitation of Hereditary Ataxias (CIRAH), said that the projects are being developed with international collaboration, and highlighted the one carried out in partnership with the University of Holguín, led by Dr. Roberto Pérez.
Some projects provide tools; others offer new markers to monitor the disease from both a clinical and molecular perspective, she noted.
The director made the statements during the Third Scientific Conference on Neurosciences and the First Socialization Workshop on Ataxias, held recently in Holguín.
