Alpidio Alonso Grau, Minister of Culture of Cuba, today toured several commercial and artistic spaces of the 31st edition of the International Book Fair in Holguín, taking place here until next 19 of March.
During his visit, he participated in the launching of the Holguín Book and Reading Observatory Regional Office, which was in charge of Enrique Pérez Díaz, director of this institution at the national level; a space aimed at contributing, from this territory, analysis and evaluations in favor of the promotion of books and literature.
Alonso Grau highlighted the importance of this space to accompany the institutional work in favor of literature, book management and editorial plans, which will allow the publication of quality titles and revitalize campaigns in favor of reading in Cuba.
He also toured the Children's Pavilion located at the headquarters of the AHS branch, the recently reopened headquarters of Ediciones Holguín and the sale points around the Calixto García park, and the Great Bookstore, located in the Plaza de La Marqueta Cultural Complex.
There he learned that more than 392,000 copies are sold in this edition, with 380 novelties, close to 30 artistic spaces and the presence of several territorial publishers, including the stands of Ediciones Holguín, La Luz, the seal of the Hermanos Saíz Association in Holguín (AHS) and the Cuadernos Papiro Publishing House.
The Minister reaffirmed the popular character of the Book Fair, one of the great riches of the Cuban Revolution that dignify writers and the reading public, promoting critical thinking of culture and the need to consume good art in all its expressions.
