With the concert "Ode to my city", held in front of the San Isidoro Cathedral, the people of Holguín celebrated at midnight this Wednesday the 271st anniversary of the granting of the Title of City and Government Tenure.

The gala, which constitutes one of the most important events of the Culture Week, made a journey through music and poetry, through key moments in the history, culture and identity of this eastern Cuban region.

Under the general direction of maestro Oreste Saavedra, the presentation was conceived as a tribute to the decree of creation of the City, taking as its starting point the founding moment in the 18th century.

In the concert we addressed passages of its history through the design of its streets in that historical process that widens and enriches the city and the mention of its squares, parks and some relevant characters or events, Saavedra said.

In addition, "Ode to my city" was a tribute to the poet Delfín Prats, recent National Poetry Award 2022, and to the Manuel Dositeo Aguilera House of Culture on its 40th anniversary, to whom this edition of the festival is dedicated.

The evening included the participation of renowned groups and artists such as the oral narration company Palabras al Viento, the dramaturgical guiding thread of the concert, the Rodrigo Prats Lyric Theater, the Holguín Symphony Orchestra, the Orfeón Choir, La Campana Folk Company, the Ruedas de Casino from the House of Culture and the FEU, as well as the soloists Alfredo Más, Yamilka Garcell, Anabel Bandera, Lucrecia Marín and Nadiel Mejías.

The city through its places, traditions, characters and legends was the main reason for the advent of the new anniversary as a declaration of love, commitment and fidelity to Holguín.

The Holguin people were accompanied in the celebration by Ernesto Santiesteban Velázquez, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and first secretary in the province; Julio César Estupiñan Rodríguez, Governor of Holguín; Ricardo Suárez Martínez, president of the Municipal Assembly of People's Power; and Osmani Viñals García, first secretary of the Municipal Committee of the Party, among other authorities.
