The National Prize for New Voices of Poetry, in its 27th edition, was awarded this Monday to the Holguín writer Rebeca Torres Serrano for her collection of poems "Corte Angosto”.
A jury, made up of José Luis Serrano, Ghabriel Pérez and Luis Yuseff, evaluated nearly 20 notebooks submitted to the contest, and decided to unanimously award the prize to this text for mastering the codes of the genre from a modern visitation and inquiry into the existence of the social being that is its author, a woman of the 21st century.
According to the jury, this notebook highlights a voice pierced by an incisive, ironic, direct tone, which effectively articulates the poetic bodies that make it up.
It also highlighted the quality of most of the participating texts; among them the books presented with the titles "The sun that I lack", "Gallery of faces", "Logical necessity" and "Behind my head".
Organized by the Hermanos Saíz Association in Holguín and the Provincial Center for Books and Literature, the National Prize for New Voices of Poetry on this occasion was dedicated to the work of musician and poet Silvio Rodríguez, founding member of the Nueva Trova Movement.
Created in 1992 as the “New Voices of Poetry in Holguín Contest” and coordinated for 25 years by Joaquín Osorio, the contest contributes to the promotion of unprecedented bards in Cuba.
Since 2018, the contest has extended its call to the national territory under the name of "New Voices of Cuban Poetry", joining the AHS prize system in the country. (Source: ACN)
