The Romerías de Mayo (May Pilgrimages), also known as World Festival of Artistic Youth,on Monday returned to its face-to-face edition after two years of celebrations on digital platforms.

The city of Holguín, in eastern Cuba, is again decorated with the art of national and foreign young people, who this time participate in the edition dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the assassination of the Sergio and Luis Saiz Montes de Oca brothers.

The event opened with the traditional parade of cars along Avenida de Los Libertadores to Bosque de los Heroes, where attendees enjoyed a concert by Cuban singer Ivette Cepeda.

At the Eddy Suñol Theater, maestro Joaquin Betancourt, winner of the National Music Award,  conducted the Holguín Symphony Orchestra in a program called “Huellas Sonoras,” which included songs by Silvio Rodriguez, Miguel Matamoros, Benny More and Juan Formell.

Until May 8, the event proposes a wide range of activities, including the Congress of Thought and spaces dedicated to the audiovisual production, literature, electronic music and theater, among other artistic expressions.

Romerias de Mayo have been held for 29 years with a unique venue in the city of Holguín, with the aim of making tradition and modernity coincide in the great celebration of young art.
