Holguín Culture Week, a tribute to the roots and identity

The Holguín Culture Week, the oldest celebration held in the City of Parks, takes place from January 14 to 20 to mark the 270 anniversary of the granting of the Title of City and Tenure of Office to this eastern Cuban province.
In its 34th edition, the event will take place mostly on social networks and digital platforms with a tribute to health workers for their commitment in confronting the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the historian David Gómez, to the centenary of the Provincial Concert Band, to the 60th anniversary of the Rodrigo Prats Lyric Theater, the 30th anniversary of the Codanza company and the 25th anniversary of the Radio Holguín station.
Odalis del Monte, president of the organizing committee and director of Culture in the municipality, explained that the event promotes a varied program of activities aimed at promoting the historical, cultural and identity roots of the people of Holguín.
She added that the event is being held in difficult circumstances due to the increase in cases of contagion with SARS-CoV-2, which is why the celebration did not include the traditional parade and the popular festivities in neighborhoods, while other activities planned will be carried out in a reduced format and under strict compliance with the health protocol.
The promotion and live broadcast of the main events of the event take place through social networks and digital platforms in charge of the experienced audiovisual project Angulo.
Among these activities, it stand out the Great Concert on January 17 at the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Park, popularly known as San José, the granting of the status of Illustrious daughter to the soloist Gladys María; while on the 19th the results of the City Award will be announced on the social networks.
This Culture Week called for the City Award in some 12 categories in the sections of poetry, narrative, history, music, communication, written press, radio and television, an incentive for the artistic and intellectual work of Holguín residents and foreigners.
Book presentation, conversations, projection of Cuban feature films together with the realization of the 35th Salón de la Ciudad in the Art Center distinguish the celebration, which is organized every year by the Department of Culture of the municipality of Holguín.
