Holguín launches online contests to celebrate Cuban Culture Day

The Provincial Council of Houses of Culture in the province of Holguín will celebrate the Cuban Culture Day on October 20 in digital platforms with contests to promote the talent of fans for dancing and the interpretation of various genres and styles.
Annelis Sánchez, provincial dance methodologist, said to the local newspaper ¡ahora! that the dance couples contest, for the first time from social networks, has a wide participation of fans, mainly from the municipalities of Moa, Sagua de Tánamo, Frank País, Mayarí, Cueto, Urbano Noris, Calixto García, Gibara, Rafael Freyre, Báguano and Antilla.
She explained that in a first moment the dancers must show their skills in Cuban popular dances through a medley designed for the competition by the members of the jury, while the second stage focuses on the casino dance.
Stage presence, style, rhythm and mastery of the choreography will be evaluated by the jury, which will announce on October 20th the winners of the competition in its Facebook profile on which interested parties can find from the 10th of this month the videos of the couples participating in the contest. According to Sánchez, three prizes will be awarded for each category.
The celebration also includes the interpretation of a son or bolero authentically performed by young fans, who with live accompaniment defend the most genuine themes and genres of the Cuban musical staff.
Amalia Ávila, provincial music methodologist, pointed out that the concept of this edition is interpretation, so that participants were given the possibility to select the genre and theme of their preference, as long as they had live accompaniment and the letter was far from all vulgarity.
The celebration also includes conferences, panels, exhibitions and virtual cultural routes through the main museums of the northeastern city, and will be dedicated to the 120 anniversary of the José Martí National Library and the 35th anniversary of the Hermanos Saiz Association.
