Jibarama 2021 Festival online begins in Holguín

The 11th edition of the Gibara Environmental Film Festival Jibarama 2021 began today with a wide program of activities, which from digital platforms and social networks promotes until the next 25, together with filmmaking, environmental sanitation actions in that coastal municipality of the province of Holguín.
Dedicated to Gibara and its natural environment, Jibarama will pay tribute to the outstanding filmmaker Humberto Solás, creator of the Non-Budget Film Festival, on the 80th anniversary of his birth, the 50th anniversary of the Fundación del Cine Jibá and the 45th anniversary of the creation of the Communication Agency Publicitur SA, said to the local newspaper ¡ahora! José Corella, a member of the organizing committee.
Corella noted that the complex health situation generated by the COVID-19 pandemic in Cuba forced the organizers to redesign the festival, which in addition to promoting various audiovisual materials on environmental issues, also includes drawing and photography contests for children.
Also, the cleaning of beaches and collecting raw materials, conversations with artists and personalities of the seventh art, as well as virtual visits to institutions and places of recognized cultural and heritage value, such as the Polija del Cementerio cave system, one of the most important geographic areas in Cuba, composed of 29 karst cavities, which constitutes a refuge for more than 30 endemic species of fauna on the Caribbean island.
With a broad audiovisual tradition, the coastal municipality of Gibara hosts the Environmental Film Festival, Jibarama, which, sponsored by the provincial direction of Film and Culture in Holguín, had its origin in 2010, known then as the Community Film Festival " Caverna de los panaderos”.
