The Holguín Culture Week, scheduled for the 14th to the 20th of this month, postponed its 39th edition due to the hygienic and sanitary situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in the province, which reports an increase in positive cases of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in the last days.
Odalys del Monte Suárez, president of the Organizing Committee, said to the Cuban News Agency that the celebration will resume once the sanitary and epidemiological situation in the territory has been normalized.
The event is dedicated this year to the intellectuals Eugenio Marrón and David Gómez, to the municipal radio station Radio Holguín La Nueva and to the 301st anniversary of the founding of Holguín as a town, to be celebrated on April.
Despite the epidemiological situation, the festival will develop a group of activities, mainly in theaters and closed spaces with limited capacities and complying with the hygienic-sanitary measures established by the health authorities, Del Monte Suárez said.
The agenda includes events such as the City Hall, the Grand Concert, the Fair of Traditions, the Music Prize, the Meeting on the Wars of Independence, as well as the meeting of researchers on cultural and intangible heritage. The traditional passacaglia has been suspended.
On the other hand, the City Prize will summon 24 categories, whose awards will stimulate the artistic and intellectual movement of the territory and other provinces, explained Gilberto González Seik, organizer of the contest and director of the Lalita Curbelo Cultural Center.
The event, organized by the Municipal Sector of Culture and other institutions of the province, will also recognize the Illustrious and Outstanding Sons on the 269th anniversary of the granting to Holguín of the Title of City and Government Tenure, to be celebrated on the 18th this month.
