The General Customs Office of the Republic of Cuba (AGRC, in Spanish) denied information on alleged changes in the customs regulations in force, and reiterated that they remain unchanged, it was reported in Havana on Monday.

According to the AGRC, in an erroneous and malicious way on different websites and social media, there are some rumors about changes in the elimination of payment in CUP (Cuban pesos) in the first entry of items people residing in Cuba do. It is totally false, the government agency stressed.

The AGRC stated that the collection of tariffs for the importing goods is a international practice and 'these regulations are those that appear on our website and social media.'

It noted that the institution will always inform in advance, by all means available, any update that such regulations may suffer.

The Cuban Customs Office suggested to always look for the information that is needed on customs clearance in the website of the institution and 'not to echo information promoted to confuse and create uncertainty in those who travel to and from Cuba.'

In accordance with Resolution 222 of the Ministry of Finance and Prices of June 22, 2012, passengers who import non-commercial products for a total value up to 50.99 pesos on each trip will be exempt from payment.

The resolution also establishes that the foreign individuals and Cuban residents abroad will pay tariffs in convertible pesos (CUC), applying the corresponding rate. / PL
