Cuban Vice President Checks East-West Water Transfer

Photo: Elder Leyva.Cuba’s Vice President of the Council of State and Ministers Ines Maria Chapman Waugh, in a working visit to the province of Holguin, described the East-West water transfer as the integration of several processes under a single command.
The Vice President called to increase production and export results derived from this engineering work, with an investment of around 800 million pesos, after completing stages one and two, while the third stage is still under development.

She visited the agricultural areas of Jagüeyes, where irrigation systems have been installed through two pivot machines and a drip system, belonging to the sugar company Azcuba; Toma Seis, inserted into the Ramon Dos irrigation system with 126 hectares; and Toma Cuatro, which should start operating this month.
The Vice President was interested in how the sugarcane yields will increase, she left suggestions of productive chains that could materialize and called for an integral analysis of each work, starting, mainly, from its sustainability.
She also urged the application of science, technology and innovation, when visiting the channel Biran-Baguano-Banes, whose execution has covered 14 kilometers - of 28 projected - of them 10 in use, and where 700 hectares of land are benefited .
Inés María Chapman knew on the small hydroelectric plants located on the banks of the reservoir (one of them under construction phase) and checked the 4, 000 hectares that benefit from water supply and urgently need to be put under irrigation without any delay.
