By the end of 2018, the Spanish hotel chain Melia will run 34 hotels and 14,661 rooms in Cuba. The upward trend in these figures received a boost this year, after the company invested some 150 million dollars in the island.

In Cayo Santa María, Meliá will inaugurate the luxurious Paradisus Los Cayos, the company's first new-generation Paradisus, before the end of the year. With 802 rooms, this eco-resort will have a Royal Service floor and The Reserve with the exclusive Family Concierge service.

This same month of December, Meliá Internacional will open its doors. With a privileged location on Varadero beach, this classic hotel is reborn with the most modern concept of comfort and technology.

The 12-story building will have an area for its high standard service The Level, differentiated for families and Adults Only. Gastronomy will be another of the hotel's strong points, as it will have 22 restaurants that will turn the ground floor of the hotel into an authentic gastronomic boulevard, and 15 bars with the best international and Cuban cocktails. It will also have an attractive spa on the top floor with an infinity pool that offers the best views of the beach.

Meliá starts operations in heritage cities such as Cienfuegos and Camagüey. In these cities, the company is immersed in the process of redesigning the identity of the Jagua hotel and the La Unión hotel to convert them into Innside Cienfuegos Jagua and Meliá Unión. The same will happen in Camagüey with the Colón and Gran Hotel hotels.

In the next two years the company will expand its presence in heritage destinations, which underscores the growing interest of foreign chains beyond sun and beach tourism. In 2019 they will open the Innside Camagüey; and in 2020, three hotels will be incorporated in Trinidad: Meliá Trinidad, Meliá Punta Ancón and Sol House Ancón.

This ambitious renovation plan includes the Meliá Habana, with an expansion of its floor plan with 168 new rooms and the creation of a modern convention center.

Currently, 75% of the country's rooms are being operated under one of the foreign investment modalities and 45,333 rooms are managed, grouped into 95 management and marketing contracts.

The Ministry of Tourism invests around 1,035 million in total currency (US dollars and Cuban pesos). As of September 16, a total of 3,425,000 visitors had arrived in Cuba. Expectations are to reach this year, around 4.8 million visitors and exceed in 2019 the figure of 5 million. / ACN
