Cuban president urges transformation of State-owned business activity

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel emphasized the urgent need to change the management and leadership styles that currently govern State-owned business activity on the island.
During a meeting with representatives of state-owned economic entities held on Monday, the president assessed the results of the implementation of the 176 Economic and Social Transformations and reaffirmed his “full confidence” in the Cuban socialist state-owned business system.
“You are the ones who will be at the forefront of this process, so let’s transform ourselves and let’s move forward,” said the president, who urged everyone to pay close attention to the discussion of the transformations and the development of the 2027 Economic Plan within their workplaces.
The First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba also emphasized the need for these debates because “if the workers don’t embrace the transformations, there will be no transformation.”
Díaz-Canel added that, amidst the economic war imposed by the United States, the country must commit to productive sovereignty and interconnection among all economic actors.
“We must take advantage of the political will that exists in the country, in the Party, in the Government, in all institutions, so that the socialist state-owned enterprise system moves forward and contributes to the country what it is meant to contribute,” he stated.
Later in the meeting, the president warned about the salary increases that the transformations must bring, which, he said, must correspond to a productive response and wealth creation.
The president added that meetings with the various economic actors operating on the island will continue systematically to integrate them into a unified business system based on the Cuban economic and social model.
Moderated by Roberto Ricardo Marrero, president of the National Institute of State Business Assets, the meeting served to delve into the results achieved by entities within the socialist State business system and to address the strengths, threats, and challenges they face.
