The 9th Legislature of the National Assembly of People's Power (ANPP) was constituted today in solemn session in this capital, with the oath of the deputies who will represent the people during the next five years.

Alina Balseiro Gutiérrez, head of the National Electoral Commission (CEN), called the names of each of those who make up the new mandate, gathered in the plenary hall of the Havana Convention Center.

Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, President of the Councils of State and Ministers, was the first to show his certificate of election to the rest of the deputies, as established by the Electoral Law in force.

This step, led by the President of the CEN, demonstrates the legality of the election process in the country, during the second stage of which the 605 deputies to the supreme body of State power and the provincial delegates of People's Power were elected on March 11th.

As part of the inaugural session, in which the members of the National Nominations Commission also participated, the deputy for the municipality of Jovellanos, Leidymara Cárdenas Isasi, the youngest member of the current Legislature, 19 years old, read the oath reaffirming her loyalty to her country.

On behalf of the legislators, she said that they are sworn to observe and enforce the Constitution, the laws and other legal norms, to behave as faithful servants of the people and the community, and to fulfill the obligations that bestow such high responsibility on them.

This day the newly formed legislature will elect the President, Vice President and Secretary of the ANPP, positions held so far by Esteban Lazo Hernández, Ana María Mari Machado and Miriam Brito Sarroca, respectively, as well as the Council of State, its President, First Vice-President, Vice Presidents and Secretary.
