Dr. Luis Velázquez has directed one of the most humane projects promoted by the Public Health system in recent years: advancing in the search for new therapeutic targets to treat Spinocerebellar Ataxia Type 2 (SCA2), a hereditary and progressive disease of high prevalence in Cuba and mainly in the province of Holguín, whose prevalence and incidence rates have not been surpassed by any other country.

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel underscored the practical usefulness of the tours of municipalities that he does along with political and government teams, which generate learning about the realities of each place.

The book "Women who did not love men" by Holguín writer Katerine Perzant was awarded this Saturday with the Celestino Short Story Prize, a literary contest sponsored each year by the Ediciones La Luz publishing house of the Hermanos Saíz Association in this province.
