With the presence of His Excellency Mr. John Geoffrey Gartshore, Canadian Ambassador to Cuba, the XI International Scientific Conference of the University of Holguín began this Wednesday, a keynote event for the academic community of this institution with more than half a century of experience in the training of professionals and the research.

At the opening of the event, held at the Gran Muthu Almirante hotel, in Guardalavaca, Geoffrey Gartshore referred to the good relations between Cuba and Canada and the alliances between universities generated in these meetings.

He highlighted the contributions of Wefla and the seminar on Canadian studies, literature and foreign languages in its 25 years of creation, which on this occasion holds as a symposium within the Scientific Conference, which every year brings together experts in addressing issues related to the culture, politics, language and idiosyncrasy of Franco-Anglo-Saxon speaking peoples.

Currently, the bilateral development program of both countries includes priority areas related to food security and renewable energy as a point of interest in economic growth and gender equality, in order to continue strengthening the empowerment of women, the center of feminist policy defended by the Canadian government in order to build a more inclusive and prosperous world, as set out in the sustainable development goals of the 2030 Agenda.

Hence, parallel to the scientific event, the II International Symposium on Gender and Renewable Energy is also in session, sponsored by the Former project, which seeks to strengthen the leadership and participation of women in the clean energy sector in Cuba.

Organized in 12 symposiums, 10 of them in the virtual modality, the eleventh conference promotes scientific exchanges and address solutions from convergent and multidisciplinary perspectives, in addition to addressing different problems in the region.
