U.S. activists sent 40,000 pounds of humanitarian aid to Cuba for the victims of Hurricane Ian that ravaged infrastructures and houses in the western part of the country past September 2022.

Holguín, along with Matanzas, is one of the Cuban provinces with which the Canadian government maintains the closest ties on the island, through its participation in two of the most important economic sectors in the territory: tourism and the production of nickel and cobalt.

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez thanked Mexico for the solidarity shown by its people and government after the recent passage of Hurricane Ian through the west of the country.
