The Vice Prime Minister of Cuba, Jorge Luis Tapia Fonseca, visited the recovery works of the Santa Clara-Tres Palmas-Arroyo Seco water transfer, accompanied by provincial authorities.
He acknowledged the progress made since May but emphasized that much effort remains to meet the schedule to have the project operational by October 13, coinciding with the start of the bean campaign.
This project will irrigate about 2,000 hectares in the first phase, benefiting 236 producers, with more than 500 expected to benefit once completed. Joel Queipo Ruiz, the provincial first secretary, highlighted that these efforts are made amid the country's difficulties, aiming to restore Cuba's "granary" and improve local agricultural production.
During the visit, Tapia received updates on other hydraulic investments in the province targeting key agricultural hubs, including irrigation systems at Beola and Limoncito, the Godínez hydraulic complex, and the Frank País machine, which has already been completed.
The need to complete resources, especially electrical components like transformers, was emphasized to finish these projects.
Tapia indicated that all alternatives should be explored to resolve these issues in the shortest possible time, due to the high value of these works for food production.
These investments are the result of combined efforts from several Holguín companies, led by the Provincial Agriculture Delegation and other organizations, working together to fulfill farmers' long-standing desire for sufficient water to produce.
