New Latin Grammy nomination for Omara Portuondo

The Buena Vista Social Club diva, Omara Portuondo, adds another achievement to her musical career today with the nomination of her album "Eternamente Omara" for the 2026 Latin Grammy Awards in the Best Traditional Tropical Album category.
According to a press release from the Cuban Institute of Music (ICM), the acclaimed performer, a source of pride for Cuba, joins eight other Cuban artists among the nominees, who will compete for the award in the categories of tropical music, Latin jazz, instrumental, and classical composition.
Recognized as one of the leading exponents of feeling, Omara Portuondo has taken her art to numerous international stages and participated in the Cannes Film Festival in France and the Golden Orpheus Festival in Bulgaria, where she won the award for best performance, the same source notes.
Her unique melody graced the Buena Vista Social Club project, which took her around the world and boosted her recording career with the labels Egrem (Cuba), Nube Negra (Spain), and World Circuit (United Kingdom).
Among the productions cited by the ICM that highlight Omara's career is "Vida," for which she won the 2023 Latin Grammy in the Best Traditional Tropical Album category.
Her remarkable talent has earned her numerous awards, including the National Music Award in 2006, the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts from the Spanish Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Songlines Pioneer Award, and the Latin Recording Academy's Lifetime Achievement Award; in addition to a Latin Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Tropical Album and a Lifetime Achievement Award, received in 2009.
In this regard, the "Bride of Feeling" wrote on her official Facebook profile that she is very happy about this nomination, which comes at the age of 95. She also highlighted the work of pianist Roberto Fonseca, musical director and arranger of "Eternamente Omara."
"If this album were to win, I could say that I would feel deeply satisfied for so many years of work, dedication, and love for music," the artist wrote, thanking her family and those who collaborated with her on the recording: Nathy Peluso, an Argentine singer, rapper, and songwriter based in Spain; the singer-songwriter Pablo López from Málaga; Angelique Kidjo from Benin; and the troubadour Silvio Rodríguez.
