Holguín celebrates Cuban Archaeologist's Day today with a seminar dedicated to the legacy of José Manuel Guarch Delmonte and Elena Guarch Rodríguez, organized by the Central-Eastern Department of Archaeology.

The contributions of both researchers to this field of science, of great significance for the study of aboriginal settlements in Cuba and other nearby Caribbean islands, will be commemorated during the event.

The day will provide an opportunity to introduce new generations to this branch of knowledge and share the main insights and contributions of the Guarch Rodríguez family not only to archaeology but also to speleology.

The program will feature Cosme Casals, Lourdes del Rosario Pérez Iglesias, and Juan Guarch Rodríguez, son of both prominent figures. The event will be held at the theater of the Center for Environmental Research and Services.

Holguín is one of the Cuban provinces with remarkable results in the study of this discipline, through projects, outreach events, and educational materials that reflect the life and customs of the indigenous peoples from Ciego de Ávila to Guantánamo.

Currently, the province prioritizes archaeological replicas, a way to market zemis, pottery, and other artifacts and to promote local identity. (Source: ACN)
