Book Fair returns to Holguín as a multicultural event

The 34th International Book Fair in Holguín will be held from September 4th to 6th, dedicated to the multi-award-winning writer and journalist Rubén Rodríguez, winner of the Alejo Carpentier Prize.
As announced at a press conference, the event will also pay tribute to the centennial of the birth of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, to the writers Marilyn Bobes and José Bell Lara, and will feature the Russian Federation as the guest of honor.
The event will feature 28 spaces and pavilions in various cultural institutions throughout the province, with a fairground surrounding Calixto García Park. It will bring together writers, publishers, and artists from various regions of the country.
With an opening gala dedicated to Russia, the general program will also include a closing ceremony led by Fermín López Hernández that references world history.
The publishing offerings will include new releases from Ediciones La Luz; the "With the Scent of Ink" series from Ediciones Holguín, focusing on the work of the honored writer; the four titles from the La Mezquita imprint; and the presentation of the first volume of Fidel Castro's Selected Works, by Editorial Alejandro.
The Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) will host the "Witness Memorial" series, featuring authors such as Emerio Medina, winner of the 2010 Casa de las Américas Prize, explained provincial president Eliel Gómez Martínez.
The Science Pavilion, located at the La Periquera Provincial History Museum, will be dedicated to the guest country and will include among its initiatives documentary resources on the Russian-speaking community.
The José Martí Cultural Society will dedicate its program to the 65th anniversary of the UNEAC (National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba) and will exhibit works by Cosme Casals Corella, recipient of the National Environmental Award.
Yaquelín Tapia, the provincial director of Culture, emphasized the pride she feels dedicating this edition to the renowned journalist and writer from Holguín, whose work ranges from children's audiences to adults and is part of the cultural heritage cultural heritage of the province.
Sarais Ferrer Morales, President of the Organizing Committee of FILHo 2026, emphasized that, even in difficult circumstances for the nation, the event will be a worthy occasion, creating a platform for exchange and interaction with the public.
As a precedent, during the previous Havana edition of the event, Holguín publishing houses had a prominent presence, winning several awards.
Ediciones La Luz added the Puerta de Papel awards to its collection with the books El brillo de la superficie, by the distinguished Delfín Prats Pupo (National National Literature Prize 2022), and El libro discontinuo, by Lourdes González Herrero, winner of the 2007 Literary Critics' Award. These accolades were accepted by poet Luis Yuseff, the publisher's director.
For three days, Holguín will once again become a hub of where authors, readers, and artists come together, with a program that brings literature and thought to diverse audiences and celebrates the value of literature in Cuban culture. (Source: ACN)
