Holguín strengthens educational inclusion for the new school year

Special Education in Holguín begins the 2026–2027 school year with 26 institutions in operation, prioritizing the promotion of self-reliance among children and youth in inclusive situations, with or without disabilities.
This new academic period, which coincides with the 65th anniversary of education in Cuba, will be marked by the commitment of the teaching staff to serve more than 3,400 students with special educational needs.
All educational modalities will work to ensure autonomy, continuity of studies, and preparation for working life for students with sensory and intellectual disabilities, physical-motor impairments, delays in psychological development, behavioral disorders, and autism spectrum disorders.
Furthermore, options aimed at improving the well-being of students residing in complex areas and hard-to-reach communities will be expanded, prioritizing boarding arrangements at each institution according to territorial capabilities.
Among the guarantees provided are meals, work sessions, hospital classrooms, and the implementation of local projects focused on the comprehensive development of students, with support from various organizations and institutions, some sponsored by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
The preparation of teaching staff, the availability of essential study materials, and transportation to the institutions receiving this service have also been ensured.
Established by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, on January 4, 1962, Special Education in Holguín is driving several projects aimed at expanding teaching resources, building capacities, and adapting learning processes to the specific conditions of each student, thus reaffirming its commitment to inclusive and quality education.
