The 33rd edition of the Romerías de Mayo will take place in Holguín from May 2 to 8, 2026, dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS) and to the cultural thought of Fidel Castro, on the occasion of the centennial of his birth.
Under the motto "Tradition and modernity in defense of the identity values of our peoples," the organizing committee of the Festival invites artistic projects until December 31, with selection scheduled for February.
Yasel Toledo Garnache, national president of the AHS, highlighted Fidel’s close relationship with the association, being an Honorary Member and Youth Mentor, and his influence on Cuban culture.
He recalled key meetings, such as the one in 1988 when Fidel reaffirmed the importance of the AHS, and the first Congress held in October 2001, where he discussed international cultural topics with young members and supported initiatives such as the organization's scholarship and awards platform.
He also noted that Romerías, the most important event held each year, expects broad international participation in 2026.
With the premise that "There is no today without yesterday," the Romerías are held in their usual venues, including Babel, for the Visual Arts; Cámara Azul, featuring young audiovisual producers; Bloguerías de Mayo, as the media event; Shared Words, a literary event; and Experiences and Roots, led by instructors and amateur artists, among others yet to be announced.
The festival maintains traditional spaces such as Babel (Visual Arts), Cámara Azul (audiovisual), Bloguerías de Mayo (media), Palabras Compartidas (literature), and Vivencias y Raíces (amateur artists).
The event, which became the World Festival of Artistic Youth, has made Holguín the capital of young Cuban art since 1993, bringing together the best creators and artists from the island and other countries to celebrate art in all its forms.(Source: ACN)
