The Ministry of Science, Technology, and Environment (Citma) in Holguín is implementing various measures aimed at protecting beaches, one of the most vulnerable ecosystems due to the increase in visitors during the summer.

Ridel Rodríguez Paneque, head of the coastal management department, said that visitor numbers increase along with harmful behaviors such as littering, tree cutting and washing kitchen utensils are common.

He added that emphasis is placed on environmental education, especially among young people, and on monitoring compliance with coastal protection regulations, including bans on parking on the sand and restrictions in vulnerable areas.

In turn, the Center for Environmental Research and Services, continues to promote beach management studies and programs aimed at supporting economic validation, promoting sustainable use, and contributing to decision-making on these issues.

In Holguín, with more than 200 kilometers of coastline, actions such as the removal of construction on dunes, sand dumping, reforestation, control of invasive exotic species, and solid waste collection are being carried out. In tourist areas like Playa Blanca and Guardalavaca, these measures are intensified in accordance with land-use planning. (Source: ACN)
