After finishing injured in the World Para Athletics Championships held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the Parapan American champion and javelin thrower, Ulicer Aguilera Cruz has resumed training in order to prepare for Tokyo 2020.
Aguilera Cruz, a native of the municipality of Banes, in the province of Holguín, faced difficulties in his left leg since the 2019 Parapan American Games in Lima, which got worse in the World Cup event, although it did not prevent him from finishing in the fourth position and obtaining his olympic ticket.
He returned to the tracks in mid-January after suffering a sprain in his leg, with calcifications and bruises in the Achilles tendon that require surgery, but according to the athlete himself, he will not risk due to the proximity of the Paralympics.
The national javelin thrower, category F-13 (visually impaired), is also in Havana preparing to attend the national athletics championship for conventional athletes "Janet in memoriam" Cup, which will take place in the city of Santiago de Cuba, next February.
Aguilera plans to attend the Cuban athletics competition for people with disabilities that will be held in Las Tunas on March, although he is about to define his assistance to the Grand Prix of Dubai and Sao Paulo, planned for that stage.
So far, the star sprinter Omara Durand and Ulicer Aguilera are the only Cuban para athletes with tickets for the Paralympic Games, which will be held in Tokyo, from August 25 to September 6.
