Cyclists in Holguín are preparing for the classic of cycling Baracoa-Havana, scheduled for next February.

At the moment, cyclists are training individually, since the event demands high physical and technical preparation.

The Holguín team is made up of the preselected national Alejandro Parra who trains in Havana, together with Leonel Batista, Ángel Luis Pupo, Yoel Velázquez and Víctor Vicente Protellí, who are training in the City of Parks. The group will be completed with one of the youth from the Sports School.

Máximo Velázquez, Provincial Commissioner of Cycling, considers that the province is in a position to improve the seventh place achieved in 2019 in the Classic.

Although in men’s cycling the eastern province has several well trained athletes, at this moment the women’s cyclists have greater potential, which is evidenced by the presence of four girls in the National Preselection: Idaris Cervantes, Yusmaris Díaz, Evelín Díaz and Daymelis Pérez.

In spite of the limited park of bicycles, already very exploited and other material limitations, the technicians of this discipline in the territory have managed to maintain cycling at good level, together with the dedication and quality of the athletes.
