Holguín athletes to Santo Domingo-2026

Twenty-one athletes from Holguín are part of the Cuban delegation to the 25th Central American and Caribbean Games, scheduled for July 24 to August 9 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
The athletes, nine women and twelve men, will compete in fourteen sports.
Three members of this delegation already competed in Barranquilla-2018 and San Salvador-2023: Luis Raúl Domínguez (softball), Tamara Robles (taekwondo), and Dennier Infante (sailing). Seven others are returning from the previous edition in the capital of El Salvador: Evelín Díaz (cycling), Yordan Danilo Ferrer (épée, fencing), Ana Laura Jiménez (rowing), Eleannis Maria Crespo and Marlin Pérez (taekwondo), Rafael Guerra (pitching, softball), and Eddy Antonio Leyva (shooting).
Several athletes won medals: Ana Laura Jiménez, a rower from Mayarí, was part of the gold-medal-sized four; she also took silver in the lightweight single sculls and another silver in the lightweight double sculls. Shooter Eddy Antonio Vázquez won silver in the team event for the 50-meter rifle in three positions.
Bronze medals were won by fencer Yordan Ferrer (team event) and taekwondo athlete Tamara Robles (57 kg), who had won gold in Barranquilla in 2018. Taekwondo athletes Marlin Pérez and Eleannis María Crespo (TK3) also won bronze medals.
In Santo Domingo-2026, 11 northeastern athletes will make their debut in the Central American and Caribbean Games: Olympian and World Championship competitor Andy Hechavarría Salazar (triple jump, athletics), Yasiel González (outfielder, baseball, officially in the pre-selection so far), Andreas Fuentes Aguilera (rhythmic gymnastics), Marlon Alejandro Herrera Ferrer (judo), Melany Zaldívar Sánchez (diving), Yaneisy Díaz Campo and Gisson Darío Ricardo Correa (fencing), Marcos Antonio Campos Surén (football), Jhon Pablo Martínez Peña and Yudislennis M. Lores Sánchez (pentathlon) and Erika Leonor Ibañez (sailing).
