Important issues regarding Holguín baseball were discussed at the Sports-Press Meeting, held in the Protocol Room of the Calixto García Stadium of this eastern province.

Hiroshi Bartutis was introduced as the new provincial commissioner of Baseball, while Lugdis Pineda was confirmed as manager of the Holguín team (Los Cachorros) for the next National Baseball Series.

Pineda presented a detailed analytical report on the performance of the Holguín team in the last National Baseball Series, with emphasis on the offensive and pitching aspects, the work of experienced and rookies, which determined the modest performance of the team.

“All players are eligible for the Holguín team,” said Bartutis, when answering questions from the press, about the 12 players who were excluded in the previous campaign.

They will be required to meet the same requirements as the rest, related to their performance in the provincial tournament and other indices.

Likewise, there will be talks or exchanges with players who stopped playing with Los Cachorros by personal decision, including pitcher Carlos Santiesteban and catcher Franklin Aballe, with the possibility of reintegrating them into the Holguín roster.

Bartutis said that the immediate strategy is to act to recover, as far as possible, the technical strength lost in the municipalities and there are talks to achieve technical cooperation from specialists and former baseball players from other provinces, in the areas of pitching and batting.

According to the Provincial Commissioner, the plan is to call on glories of this sport, including Rafael Castillo and Luis Miguel Rodríguez, so that they can contribute their experiences in the effort to improve our baseball.

Players who return from abroad can be incorporated into the northeastern squad and it is planned to reassign games of the national series to some municipalities.
