The University of Holguín is strengthening the links with the sugar company AZCUBA of the province from the planning of various scientific projects aimed at materializing the economic and productive objectives of the entity in the cultivation of cane.

In this regard, the projects open the possibilities for students and teachers to participate in these programs, although most of them are concentrated in the faculties of Natural and Agricultural Sciences, due to the potential of the province in these branches, told to the ACN news agency Raymundo Escobar, Dean of the Faculty.

According to Escobar, they are currently carrying out two research studies approved by the Institute of Science, Technology and Environment on vertisol soils where sugarcane is grown to progressively contribute to improving yields and increasing crude oil production during industrial processes.

Another of the agreements between the University and AZCUBA in the field of Science and Technology is the evaluation by students of the effectiveness of the sugarcane harvester CCA-5000, acquired through the agreement of Cuba with China, said the doctor of science Jorge Luis Torres Díaz, Vice Chancellor for Research and Postgraduate Studies at the university.

The center of high studies expands programs to strengthen ties with AZCUBA for the benefit of the economic indicators of the sugar industry, which include, in addition to crude oil and its derivatives, the generation of electricity through the use of biomass, the modernization of the harvest system and the increase of the areas dedicated to the cultivation of sugarcane.

Rodolfo Mora, deputy director of AZCUBA in Holguín, noted that these agreements constitute an essential means of the policy being promulgated in the country of linking the university with the business system so that students, professors and applicants to master and doctorate direct their research to promote the agribusiness development in the country.

The Holguín sugar company has five sugar mills: Loynaz Hechavarría, López Peña, Fernando de Dios, Urbano Noris and Cristino Naranjo, the latter two being included as the largest producers in the territory.
