"Holguin is prepared to face the current situation, grow and arise stronger," said the president of the Councils of States and Ministers of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel, at the close of the meeting held with national and local authorities to assess the actions taken in the eastern territory.
In a brief speech, the Cuban president noted that the province is working in accordance with the essential lines established by the country and those of the territory.
He added that from the central government Holguin should be prioritized in the matter of supplies, as it is one of the most populated on the Island, with more than one million inhabitants, so that an affectation affects a greater number of people.
The Cuban Head of State addressed two fundamental elements defended in the tours of the other provinces: the origin of this situation and the scenario we face.
He recalled that the current situation the country is facing is caused by the aggressiveness of the United States government and its imperial escalation: “Now it has a different nuance, much more intense than before the stagnation in Venezuela, since it was not able to overthrow the Bolivarian Revolution, it has sought as a pretext and spred in international public opinion, that Cuba is to blame for everything that happens in that brother country. ”
"In this way, it has increased sanctions, financial persecutions and the worsening of the blockade with the activation of all the chapters of the genocidal Helms Burton Act," he said.
Regarding fuel shortages, he explained that there are important effects on the economy and on aspects related to the population's quality of life, including power generation, distribution of supplies, transportation, which also demonstrates that the hostility of the Donald Trump administration is directed against the Cuban population.
He said that although the ship arrived on September 14 at the port, it is necessary to maintain the adjustment measures and from now on “prepare for when we return to normal, because at that time we will maintain a group of actions that will give us more efficiency”.
He referred to these measures implemented in the tourist industry of Holguin, which, without affecting customer service or quality standards, contribute to fuel savings.
On the other hand, he reflected on the importance of taking into account the call to young people. "They can achieve great things in scenarios like this for their enthusiasm, commitment and desire to do things."
"We are living in real time a complex situation, and tomorrow these young people will assume all the responsibilities that we occupy today."
Diaz-Canel urged working with the concept of labor change, linking workers to other tasks to avoid accommodation, disengagement or lack of motivation.
"Here there are many tasks to be done, it is necessary to plant, build houses, and in addition, there is an urgent need for support in the Vector campaign to avoid arbovirosis."
In this context - he emphasized - or in any other we cannot allow the price increase of articles or services, hoarding and speculation. Established reporting channels should be preserved and follow up on each concern until a response or resolution of the problem is obtained.
“The efforts of the province and the municipalities ratify the concept that we have to work differently because the times are different, what does not change are the principles, combativeness, commitment and solidarity of the people.
“It does not change the will to resist. We resist with creation, growth and progress towards the society we want. ”
"It does not change, either, the spirit of the Cubans; we will always be a laborious, happy, creative and even joking people in realities like this one."
At the closing of the meeting, Diaz-Canel stressed that "to the same extent that we find creative solutions and overcome challenges like this, we will all feel better revolutionaries, citizens, leaders and public servants."
