From the readjustment of the technical-economic plan of the Porcine Company in the province of Holguin, its production for 2019 has decreased in more than 3 thousand tons of meat with effects on the fulfillment of its deliveries to the meat industry as the main state order and the supply of that high- demanded food to the population.

Yosbel Sarmiento Peña, deputy director of the porcine sector in the province, said that the company had planned for this year a production of 16,145 tons (t) of the food, but due to difficulties with animal feeding it was reduced to 13,035 (t), and therefore the decrease in some products derived from this protein is notable in the markets.

He said that strategies and organizational methods are being implemented in order to increase production: “We have identified a producer in each municipality as a test polygon, which will guarantee the production of 60 percent of the food, while the porcine company would guarantee the 40 percent thus contributing to reduce imports. The total feed plan for animal food in the year is 51, 696 (t), of which 10 thousand (t) are from nationally produced corn”.

Also, alternatives such as the planting of cassava and cane have been implemented in the province for the improvement of pig feeding.

“As a country policy, the program is directed towards the pig fattening by state entities. There are currently 342 agreements with different state productive forms,” he added.

The Porcine Company in Holguin works to strengthen its administrative management system based on quality models, investments and compliance with agreements with producers and prevent economic losses in the sector.

Efficient porcine production is influenced by some key factors such as the correct genetic and reproductive management, health and growth control and adequate operations in nutrition and diet balance.

Of high consumption in Holguin, pork meat production must respond to the increasing demand in the territory.
