Projections of Special Education in Holguin

The main projections of Special Education for the current school year in the province of Holguin are focused on vocational training, professional and teacher orientation, methodological, preventive, political and ideological work, as well as the improvement of the national education system.
 
The 28 educational institutions, five homes for children without family shelter and three hospital classrooms started the school year in this teaching with an enrollment that exceeds 3,620 students in the territory, most of them with psychopedagogical diagnosis of intellectual disability.

According to Yamila Garrido Labrada, head of education in the provincial Directorate of Education, the largest number of schools are located in the head city.

“Our schools not only receive students with special educational needs associated or not with disabilities, but also has the challenge of offering a set of services, resources and support for all students who require it in any educational context and level”, Garrido said.

She highlighted the teacher coverage of 99.1 percent, which has an impact on the superior quality of teaching processes.

Among the novelties for the current school year, there is the opening of the Home no.5 of children without family shelter, which allowed to adapt the enrollment by age groups and needs, as well as the expansion of the services of the school for students with conduct disorder for the attention to all the psychopedagogical manifestations of them at any educational level.

“We are now involved in the training of all the staff through agreements with the University of Holguin and from the provincial Directorate of Education with the work teams of the Center for Diagnosis and Orientation (CDO) and several schools, as these institutions will not only provide attention to students, but also to the teachers and the family, ” she said.

Opened in the 60s in the province of Holguin, the Special Teaching currently hosts five specialties related to intellectual disability, retardation in psychic development, sensory type (aimed at children with strabismus and amblyopia, low vision, blind, deaf and hearing impaired), behavior disorder and autism.
