To renew and expand the existing products from 16 to 28 in the modalities of nature, adventure and rural tourism at the end of the year 2020 and strengthen the infrastructure of accommodation, for the stay of specialized ecological tourism, are some of the projections for this year of the delegation of the Ministry of Tourism (Mintur) in the province of Holguin, one of the main destinations of the country.
In work meeting of the ecotourism management in this territory, Mintur specialists, representatives of travel agencies and companies related to the area analyzed other objectives to be specified in the period, including the beginning of the exploitation of the interior cays of the Banes Bay and the study of nature, adventure and rural offer in the Pico Cristal National Park, where the Ecological Stations and the Cabonico River Camping Bay give an added value to the place.
José Walker, specialist of the delegation of the Mintur, explained that the province has 16 products of nature; of them 11 trails and routes, distributed in the municipalities of Rafael Freyre (5), Mayarí (4) and Gibara (2); to which is added the recent addition of five adventure air sports of the Aviation Club of Cuba.
At the end of 2018 the activity experienced a growth of tourists moved and income with respect to previous stage, coming mainly from the countries of the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany and Russia, which starts in the purchase of excursions.
The meeting also led to the call of the sixth BIOTUR 2019 Workshop on Biological Diversity and Nature Tourism, by the Cuban travel agency Ecotur Sucursal Oriente, whose edition will run from July 19 to 21 in the city of Gibara, the National Park Pilot Mensura, in Pinares de Mayarí and the Pico Cristal National Park, in the municipality of Segundo Frente, in Santiago de Cuba province.
Walker specified that this time the Biotur will promote three national parks of the Cuban East of the country, the uniqueness of the coastal town of Gibara and the new hotel of the Segundo Frente municipality, south of the Pico Cristal National Park.
The meeting also addressed topics such as the need to promote more specialized diving by the potentialities and beauties of the Holguin seabed, enrich the offers of the consolidated tourism products, such as the excursion to the Salto del Guayabo, leader in the domestic market and the visit to the Alcalá Ranch and, specifically, to design new options effectively.
The efficient management of nature tourism in Holguin will facilitate the promotion of a destination with unparalleled natural attributes where there are three National Parks, ecological, natural and managed reserves, protected natural landscapes and wildlife refuges, for a total of 17 Protected Areas, both of national and local significance.
