The coffee harvest in the province of Holguin currently exceeds 5 thousand 213 tons (t) cerezas, the first unit of measure in which it is purchased from the producer, which represents 99.2 percent of the plan for this period.

Juan Ramon Amador, Coffee specialist of the provincial delegation of agriculture, explained that the coffee collection plan in the eastern territory is 5 thousand 252 (t).

Holguín exhibits more than 99 percent of the plan in the current cherry harvest.

"We plan to reach the expected figure around March 15, because we are in the final stage of the harvest and there’s still an amount of the Robusta species to be collected, mainly in Sagua de Tanamo, the territory with the largest coffee production in the province ", explained the specialist.

In relation to the Arabica coffee destined for export, of a plan of 279.7 tons, about 1, 300 have been collected, indicator that gives a 102 percent of compliance.

"We do not sell coffee directly to export. We send it washed to a coffee processor in the province of Guantanamo, where the different blocks that will be sent abroad are prepared, "said Amador.

Holguin is among the first four coffee producers in the country and in the 2018 harvest (calendar year) totaled 911.5 t. One difficulty that has arisen in the current harvest is the attack of ants to the plantations, something that made collection difficult in some areas; the country gave a limited response of products to combat them, so that all the needs were not met.
