Moa Marks Day of the Geology and Mining Workers

The Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, Dr. Antonio Núñez Jiménez, of Moa, in Holguín province, welcomes today the activities for the celebration of the Geology and Mining Workers, set on October 24.
The activities took place throughout the week and included a workshop on Biodiversity in Mining Rehabilitation; an exhibition of Mining and Geology and a lecture on the exploitation of the Oro Castellanos deposit, in the province of Pinar del Río, by the engineer Agustín Miranda. The closing ceremony will take place today in the main hall of the university.
The ceremony will pay homage to more than thirty personalities and institutions from the entire country, for their sustained collaboration.
The recognition Professor of professors will be given to teachers with an outstanding work in the University, who will also be praised for their contribution to the teaching of Geology and Mining in Cuba.
The Day of the Geology and Mining Workers was established in Cuba in 1960, after the nationalization of mining companies, until then in hands of the United States.
